Just because you've trained your team doesn't mean your job is done.

In an ideal world, your self storage team members would absorb their training, head out to their assigned facility, and do exactly what they were taught to do. Every facility's team would be just as efficient and effective as the next. The truth, though, is that there can be inconsistencies in how people act on the job after training—even with the same exact training!

In this Gabfocus Spotlight, listen to Carol Mixon-Krendl of SkilCheck explain why consistency is important across your company.

Question: "How do you ensure your team is communicating consistently?"

Check out the video clip below to hear their answers:

In this Gabfocus Session: Teaching Your Team to Follow Up and Sell, Hailey Teal (The Jenkins Organization) and Carol Mixon-Krendl (SkilCheck) sat down with us to talk about training your team to follow up with and close leads.

Don't want to watch the clip? Here's what Carol had to say:

Well, one of the things early on, when I was training at National Self Storage, we brought in a training consultant. And he'd published books on this. It's called maintenance of behavior.

And basically, what we do at SkilCheck is we maintain the behavior that you're training. So if you're training on how to sell or we're helping you train on how to sell, we're going to continue maintaining that behavior.

He came in and went through my ten-day training program. This gentleman, he basically said, wow, you're an amazing trainer. But what's happening when you get these people get out to the field?

There's no follow-up.

There's no consistency or corrections to anything they're just left out there. And even at their stores, they're not all operating the same.

And that's one of the things that we got. Okay, they should be operating the same, but then they're kind of like, oh, I'd like to do this instead of that, and we prefer—and there's no more of that. Because you want to be able to even in Jenkins, right? You're moving people around. You want to be able to have the same—You can't grow unless you have that same platform everywhere.

So that's what we consistently try to do, and also with the mystery shopping, we give feedback about how to do that.
