A key element to SEO is metadata.
Metadata helps search engines, social media sites, chat services, and others decide how to display information about a website. For example, if you were to search "Rocky Hill Storage" on Google, you would see this as the first result:
Google knows how to display this information because we told the crawler what information is important with metadata. This same thing applies to social media. Below is what shows up if you post a link to Rocky Hill Storage on Facebook.
When you type out or copy and paste a link that then reveals more information such as a description and/or pictures, it is called an "unfurl."
JSON-LD, also known as structured data, is used to supplement metadata. Because it is more specific than metadata which is limited to only text, we can do more with it. For example using JSON-LD, we can display review stars right in the search results.
Structured data can also help search engines better understand what a website is, what it is used for, and who it is useful to.
Finally, one of the most important factors to SEO is design.
In order to rank well, a website needs to be designed in such a way that it is usable and secure on any device.
Today, it remains a big factor in SEO.
