Grassroots marketing techniques, when correctly applied, can truly level up your self storage facility's marketing efforts.

But not every tactic works for every market. So, how do you know which tactics to employ at your facility?

Stacie Maxwell of Universal Storage Group sat down with Tommy and Melissa to talk about grassroots marketing. Take a listen to what she had to say about choosing the right tactics for your community.

You really just have to do your research.

Chamber of Commerce is probably the most important resource for anybody. You can actually start your own networking group at your facility. If you get involved with these businesses, to go out doing your marketing and say, hey, I'm going to start a networking group, it's free to join. It won't cost you anything. Just show up every Thursday and I'll have breakfast. I'll have coffee and donuts.

There's a lot you can do for your community. And we even have a store, Paulding Storage, in Paulding County, Georgia, not too far from me. It's in Dallas, about 30 minutes from where I sit now.

But that manager, James, he's fantastic with his community. He lets the local teams, like the little league or the soccer team or whoever, they do car washes at his property.

He has a big old truck and he puts a big banner on i.t He has a pickup truck and he built kind of a stand that stands in the back of the truck and he has banners on each side and he'll just go park it by the road.

Car wash today.

And people start coming in and these kids raise money to go for the travel ball team or whatever it is. And the parents love it. And everyone who comes through thinks this is cool.

This facility cares about our community. I'm storing here.

I mean, that's the message. So it just makes a big difference when you get involved. It really does. But to get started, you have to do your homework. You got to get out there.

You got to find out who is in your community. And you can even start with people you know. I mean, most of us work where we live or nearby, so start talking to your friends.

Hey, what's important to you and what groups do you know of that I can get involved with? Is there like a group at the church? Is there a Little League? Is there different local charities?

Like here in Atlanta, we have a charity for pet rescue and adoptions called Mostly Muts. I've done a lot of work with them before, but these are very hyper local things.

You just have to get involved, have to find out."
